Tiessiri 1 Group's story
The Tiessiri 1 group consists of married women from the village of N'tion in the prefecture of San, Segou region (Mali's Fourth Administrative District). They live in traditional families. On average, each is 38 and has four children. They are peanut farmers. Hoping to make more profit from farming, the group decided to sign up with Soro Yiriwaso this year, and are receiving their first operational loan. Nacene D. plans to use her loan to buy seed peanuts, small tools, and fertilizer at the big market in Tene. After the rains end, the harvest is stored long enough to increase in value and be sold in the big market of Tene, Mopti and in nearby markets at retail (often, wholesale) to customers who mostly come from large towns. Each member of the group is counting on making a profit of between 24,500 and 39,000 CFA after their produce is sold. They will use the money to pay loan interest and day-to-day family expenses.
