Las Manzanas De Santa Lucia Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy tree resin to make copal (traditional) incense.

Las Manzanas De Santa Lucia Group's story

Copal resin, made into incense, is from a tree native to Mexico and Central America. It has been used in ceremonies for purification and healing for thousands of years. Maria, a 45 year old married mother of 5 children all over the age of 4, transforms the resin into copal. She has worked since she was a child because her parents were poor. Part of her income helps with household expenses and the education of her children. Maria is requesting her 1st loan to buy tree resin to make more copal incense to sell.

Maria, along with 6 other Maya K’iche ladies, is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Las Manzanas de Santa Lucia” in the department/state of Totonicapan. Besides being able to access credit, the women participate in monthly educational sessions (business, health, family, women), part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care services. They apply what they learn in these training sessions to their businesses, their homes and themselves. Every 2 months, the ladies have the opportunity to have an appointment with a visiting nurse who speaks their language and is sensitive to their needs. They can have all kinds of exams and consults.

These women are striving to create a brighter future for themselves and their families. Kiva investors are helping them achieve their goals! Thank you to each of you!
