Mujeres De Chacaguex Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy more chickens to sell.

Mujeres De Chacaguex Group's story

Juana, a married mother of 5 children (5 mos.-12 yrs) and is a woman on the move with multiple businesses. She sews colorful traditional lightweight blouses in the department/state of Quiche, as well as traditional skirts or “cortes”. Juana also raises chickens and pigs. Part of their income supports the education of 3 of their children who are enrolled in elementary school. Juana requests a Kiva loan to buy more chickens to sell.

Juana, along with 6 other Maya Sacapulteco women, belongs to the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres de Chacaguex”. They benefit greatly from their monthly educational sessions (health, women, family, business), part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care services. Juana was fortunate to have 6 years of formal education but many of the ladies in the group had little or none. A Facilitator shares essential information with them about everyday topics like nutrition, hygiene, health and the importance of wearing masks and keeping social distance during the pandemic. They learn about women’s issues and family matters as well. And the sessions of effective business management practices help them manage their animal husbandry and textile businesses. Every 2 months, the women have access to basic health care services. (The children in the photograph are children of the borrowers and have been authorized to appear in it).

Thank you, Kiva investors, for the essential role you play with Juana and her friends!
