Kadiatu's story

Greetings from Sierra Leone!

This is 33-year-old Kadiatu from Waterloo branch. She is married with two children between the ages of 7 and 10 and both are currently attending school. She started this business because she wanted to take care of her family.

Kadiatu runs a fish business. She sells dried and smoked fish to her customers from a table near a busy marketplace. The fish is smoked on a grate whilst small pieces of wood burn underneath. Certain fish smokes better than others and Kadiatu tries to run her business in tune with local demand and whatever fish is available from the ports.

Kadiatu's other source of income is from her husband. She has been in this business for the past 12 years. She says her business is going well without any challenges.

She requested this loan through BRAC Sierra Leone to purchase more cartons of fish and other assorted items to increase her business. She says that the extra income from this loan will help her to take care of her family and increase her business.

In the future, Kadiatu would like to expand to a large scale. She says thanks to BRAC and Kiva for their support.
