Gladys's story

Gladys is a 35 year old mother of four boys, her children are of ages 9, 7, 3 and a baby of 7 months. She has her partner who is a local bus driver. She lives with her partner and children in a small shanty home unit which is located in an urban district that is 5 minutes drive to Port Vila city. Gladys' community is very large, and the main industry is agriculture. Vanuatu relies a lot on agriculture for food and income so making an earning has been satisfactory in spite of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Gladys has requested a loan to purchase raw materials and ingredients to cook delicious food to sell at an affordable price for her customers. She wants to make different kinds of dishes which will attract more customers. This will help increase her revenue, and enable her to save so she can purchase a piece of land to build a house for her family. Gladys has now been in this business for 7 years. She dreams of operating her own food stall so she can sell her food in a place where locals and visitors pass by. Seeing the bad conditions of her family's living has motivated Gladys to make her business grow so she can provide her family a better living.
