Sophia's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase more plastics like jerrycans, basins, plates, cups and buckets for resale.

Sophia's story

Sophia is 30 years old and lives in the town of Kireka in the Kireka region of Uganda. She is married and has 2 children who are currently in school. For the past 3 years, Sophia has been working hard to manage her plastics utensils business, which sells plastic home items.

To help expand her business, Sophia has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more plastics like jerrycans, basins, plates, cups and buckets for resale. This will help Sophia to generate greater profits and improve her family's standard of living by providing them with enough basic needs. Sophia hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a plot of land for her family.

Sophia is a member of BRAC's microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Sophia who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
