A loan helped to buy more fertilizer and seeds to grow Irish potatoes.

Abahujintego Agric Cb Group's story

ABAHUJINTEGO AGRIC CB is represented by Genereuse, a 31-year-old mother of two children ages between one and 12 years. She is a farmer and has been growing Irish potatoes for the past five years.

Genereuse has requested a loan through Kiva. She would like to buy more fertilizer and seeds to grow Irish potatoes. With the profit from her business, she wishes to expand her farming business by buying another piece of land.

The agriculture sector accounts for 37 percent of Rwanda's gross domestic product. It generates 65 percent of Rwanda's export revenue, and employs approximately 90 percent of Rwandans (as of 2009). Despite the importance of agriculture to Rwandans and their economy, financial institutions view funding agricultural activities as a high-risk proposition because the profitability of these activities is affected by weather, natural disasters, and price fluctuations. For this reason, farmers in Rwanda remain underserved by financial institutions.

Due to the pandemic, photographing all the group members was not possible, so Genereuse is representing her group and she had come for the group photo with her child..
