Mujeres Al Progreso Group's story

Mujeres al Progreso [Women for Progress] is a communal bank made up of 11 members and led by Mirta who is the president and representative of the communal bank. They are in their sixth cycle, and are pleased with their forward progress.

The group has a board of directors that represents the communal bank. The president, treasurer and secretary are shown in the photo.

Mirta is 50 years old. She has three children: two boys and a girl. Two of them are adults, and one is still a minor and lives with Mirta and her husband.

Mirta's husband helps her a great deal. He is a businessman. They have a store located in the front part of their house. They sell snacks, groceries, drinks, and plastic items, among other products.

In addition, Mirta gets up very early to cook and prepare breakfasts in the mornings. In the afternoons she sells lunches from her house. She has a big table for her customers. Her husband helps her a great deal both in the store and in the preparation of food, which brings in extra income.

The loan Mirta seeks through Kiva will be used to buy plastic items, drinks, and other products to stock her store so that her customers have more variety when shopping. She considers herself an enterprising woman. Her goal is to expand her house by constructing rooms to rent, in order to improve her quality of life and not work so hard every day.
