A loan helped to buy certified fertilizers to improve her corn crop.

Rebecca's story

Dear Kiva community, this is Rebecca, 43, the mom of two school-going children. She is polite, devoted, responsible and hard working. Rebecca started practicing mixed farming a few years ago, growing corn and keeping dairy animals. She has gained so much experience through these years of farming. Rebecca is very passionate about farming and loves cultivating her farm.

Although she makes profits from farming, she is not comfortable financially and has always wanted to increase her income. She is seeking a loan to buy certified fertilizers in order to improve her corn farm. With this loan, Rebecca will be assured of a good harvest, and this will translate into more profits and income. She wants what any mother would want for her family: a bright future.

Unlike most microfinance institutions in Kenya, which have imposed very complicated procedures in funds acquisition, thereby discouraging smallholder farmers, Juhudi Kilimo is working closely with Kiva to make loan acquisition for a smallholder farmer easy and convenient. Through this intervention, movement of funds in the rural communities has increased, thereby, alleviating rural poverty.

Rebecca feels inspired to continue farming and motivated to improve her life now that she is a member of Juhudi Kilimo. You can support Rebecca in making her dreams come true with a loan.
