Mercy's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy farm inputs such as certified seed and nutrient-rich fertilizer, to boost the quality of her produce.

Mercy's story

Mercy is a 21-year old mother living in Eldoret, a town that was significantly stuck by the 2007–2008 Kenyan crisis when violence occurred in Kenya. She is a mixed farmer who has farmed for the last many years. Unlike banks and other local money lenders who operate mainly in urban centers, Juhudi Kilimo (a Kiva field partner) has extended its operations to the most remote areas of Kenya, creating opportunities to different people to access loans.

Mercy has taken this loan to buy farm inputs such as certified seeds and nutrient-rich fertilizer to boost the quality of her produce, earn more profits, and elevate her living standards. This loan is therefore an opportunity that she never had before. Her irregular income and lack of collateral security were the main drawbacks limiting her from accessing a loan at commercial banks. Thanks to Juhudi Kilimo and Kiva, the lives of Mercy and her family will be changed through this loan.
