A loan helped to buy dairy cows in order to increase her sales of milk to a local plant.

Erkekyz's story

The 49-year-old Erkekyz is married, with four children. She has a secondary education, and has been raising livestock and growing crops since 1995. This is her family's main source of income. Thanks to her hard work, her farm presently consists of two cows, 10 sheep, and a 1.28-hectare plot of land on which she grows beans.

Erkekyz has a contract to deliver organic milk to a local plant, where it is processed into dairy products. This permits her to put money back into her business on an ongoing basis. After learning that she could obtain a loan from Bai Tushum Bank, using as collateral the contract for future deliveries under a Value-Added-Chain arrangement, Erkekyz has applied for a loan of 200,000 som (KGS) to buy dairy cows. Her goal in this is to increase her milk sales. The dairy plant's payments for the milk will be deposited directly into Erkekyz's bank account, and the loan payments will be automatically deducted. The income generated by this loan will help the future development of her farm.
