Las Golondrinas Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a new sewing machine for her busy workshop.

Las Golondrinas Group's story

Ten years ago, Maria opened her workshop sewing shirts. Now, she works with 2 employees and 2 of her daughters in the business. She currently has 5 sewing machines!

Maria lives in the department/state of Totonicapan with her husband and the couple has 3 children (aged 9-16). Part of her income supports household expenses and covers the children's education. She shares that she is most proud to be able to deliver large orders to the huge market in San Francisco El Alto. Maria is requesting her 2nd Kiva loan to buy a new sewing machine.

Maria, along with 7 other Maya K’iche ladies, participates in the “Microcredit Plus” program (loans, education, health care) of Friendship Bridge. They have formed the Trust Bank Las Golondrinas. They look forward to their monthly meetings when they make loan payments and participate in educational training that is especially useful for them since they have little or no formal education. Maria has a 4th grade education. Information about effective business practices, health, nutrition, hygiene and prioritizing expenses can be immediately applied to their lives. Every 2 months, the women have access to basic health care services. This is especially important as the public health care system in Guatemala is sadly lacking.

Maria and her friends in the group have real hope for a brighter future! Kiva investors, partnering with Friendship Bridge, are highly valued by them! Thank you, Kiva investors!
