Joyce's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy farming inputs, such as nutrient-rich fertilizers and certified seeds, to improve her production.

Joyce's story

Joyce, age 46, is very clear about what she wants in life. She is determined to get ahead and have a good life. Joyce is a smallholder farmer from Kerugoya, which is in the central region of Kenya. She owns a small parcel of farmland where she practices mixed farming. This mother keeps dairy animals and grows maize and vegetables. She has many years of farming experience under her belt.

In Kenya, agriculture is one of the most competitive industries, especially due to the high operational costs that are necessary to improve farming. Such costs include land acquisition and inputs, which have always skyrocketed. To meet the high costs of inputs, farmers have been forced to borrow from financial institutions that sometimes impose very complicated procedures for loan distribution. Some farmers, especially women, end up in hopelessness, despondency, and a lack of morale that prevents them from investing in agriculture.

Joyce has decided to request a loan that she intends to use to buy farming inputs, such as nutrient-rich fertilizers and certified seeds. The loan will help her to improve the productivity on her farm and generate more income from her sales. She is really counting on the help and understanding of the lenders because she knows they have got her back.
