Siteri's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy building materials for home repairs and construction of a kava bar, along with kava stock.

Siteri's story

Siteri is the owner of a thriving business, which included a kava bar. As disappointing as it was, this mother was forced to close shop when Tropical Cyclone Yasa swept through the Northern islands of Fiji. Every man, woman and child were called to communally take part in the community’s efforts to clean up and rebuild homes that were damaged.

With relief efforts from the government, foreign aid and support from NGOs, the people in the community have made significant progress in their efforts to return their village to its former state.

Siteri has plans to continue her kava business after she makes repairs to her home. Kava is a traditional drink that is made from the dried and powdered roots of a plant from the pepper family. As an entrepreneur, Siteri feels that with a loan, she will pay for repairs to her home and construct a gazebo-styled kava bar that not only serves as an income generating business, but also as an avenue for social support. She also plans to buy the harvested kava from the farmers, and a grog pounder along with the packaging items.

This mother is very keen on continuing her kava business, providing a service that provides an opportunity to her customers to enjoy the drink, which is an anti-depressant, and also commune to collaborate and discuss efforts for progress.
