Maria's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy building materials and the stock to continue a canteen.

Maria's story

It devastated Maria when she realized that her canteen would have to cease operations after the tropical cyclone swept through her village in December 2020.

Since then, she has been helping with the village’s communal efforts to rebuild lives and homes and restore hope to the survivors. Their work has not gone by unnoticed, and as relief and aid have poured in, government and NGOs have brought much relief to the Northern islands of Fiji.

Maria is a firm believer in the words that we rise by lifting others. The mother of two has engaged in every project for recovery and is now ready to begin her personal recovery plan.

She needs a loan to buy building materials, and stock of groceries, fuel and cyclone-ready items for her canteen. Maria also hopes to expand her services to include e-services (M-paisa), a service that she knows will be crucial in the event of another natural disaster.

Confidence comes from being prepared, and a loan would boost Maria’s confidence. It is also proven that women invest a higher proportion of their earnings into their families and community.
