A loan helped to buy building materials and the stocks for her canteen.

Karalaini's story

The aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Yasa and with any natural disaster, emergency conditions arise, in which water and electricity are cut off, roads are closed, and food preparation equipment and tools are damaged. Therefore, provision of emergency food (such as ready-to-eat food products) for the survival of the injured and relief workers is crucial.

Karalaini is mindful of how crucial her business is to provide services and products that would require distant travels to access.

As a victim of TC Yasa herself, the grandmother hopes to secure a loan to repair her home in which her business is based. She also plans to buy extra stocks for her canteen selling groceries, fuels and providing e-services (e-Wallet). With the addition of cyclone-ready items such as torches, Kara hopes to assist her fellow villages in case of another natural disaster.

A loan will help Kara and those with immediate needs, and it would also help the disaster responders replenish their needs. It is in times like these that humankind realizes the importance of basic needs for survival and the deepness of kindness, generosity and comradeship to bring about resilience.
