Selai's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy stock for a canteen business and include cyclone-ready items.

Selai's story

Selai finds herself to be fortunate, as her home suffered only minor damage when Tropical Cyclone Yasa hit the Northern islands of Fiji in December 2020.

However, the aftermath of the disaster brought about emergency conditions in which water and electricity were cut off and roads closed, besides the national curfew as a preventative measure for the COVID-19 pandemic.

After natural disasters, other emergency conditions arise and food preparation equipment and tools are damaged. Therefore, provision of emergency food (as in ready-to-eat food products) for the survival of the injured and relief workers is crucial.

Selai was running a canteen before the cyclone hit her village and needs a loan to continue her home-based operations. She hopes to include more stock that will ensure her customers are cyclone-ready. Such items include batteries, bottled water, and torches.

A loan would make it possible for her to continue delivering an essential service that is crucial for the recovery of her community and for the replenishment of supplies for disaster response workers.
