Benkadi 4 Group's story

The Benkadi 4 group is made up of married women from the Djigonso village in the San municipality, the Segou region (the fourth largest administrative region of Mali). They live in traditional households, are around 38 years-old and have 4 children; they grow rice for a living. In order to generate higher profits from their operations, they have decided to seek a loan from Soro Yiriwaso. Having successfully repaid their first loan, they are seeking another in order to assist with the cultivation of their crops. Minata Dembélé aims to use the loan in order to purchase an adequate quantity of grain, small tools and inputs for growing crops. They source their goods from the large market at Bla and from the Yangasso town market. After wintering the crops, the harvest is stored for a while in order to gather value before being sold at the large Yangasso, Bla and other markets. Sales are in cash for individual or bulk items, and the customer base generally comes from large towns. The group members aim to generate an average profit of 42,500 FCFA which will be used to repay the loan interest and to meet the family's everyday costs.
