Melina's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a pickup truck for transporting and distributing organic plantains.

Melina's story

This is Melina. She is a strong community leader from the indigenous town of Ipeti Embera, which is in eastern Panama. Melina is known for not only for being a leader in local associations that are key to the development of her community, but also for being a hardworking and innovative entrepreneur.

She cultivates organic plantains that are sold to traders that come to her community to buy in bulk at low prices. Melina has been in this business for more than 15 years and understands that to make better profits, she needs to sell directly to distributors in the urban areas at a higher margin, which cuts out the middleman, thus allowing more money to stay in her indigenous town.

For years, Melina has been planning to buy a small pickup truck for transporting her produce, as well as buying plantains from her neighbors at a fair price to sell in Panama City. She has already saved up half the amount that is required to buy a truck. Melina is requesting a loan for the remaining amount so that she can complete this purchase. As a result, she will be able to expand her agricultural venture and support more farmers that live in Ipeti.

Thank you for supporting indigenous businesswomen from historically excluded communities in rural Panama.
