Orquideas De Montecristo Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy chickens, fabric, and embroidery patterns.

Orquideas De Montecristo Group's story

Small family farms, where poultry, sheep and cattle are raised, are prevalent in rural areas in the department/state of Solola. Children learn at an early age how to take care of them and often continue to do so into adulthood. Olga, a 25-year-old married mother of 3 children (18 mo.-8 yrs), has an animal husbandry business. With her income, she is able to help her husband cover the educational expenses of their oldest son. Olga also sells regional snacks and embroiders colorful traditional blouses or “huipiles.” She is requesting her 2nd Kiva loan to buy chickens, fabric, and embroidery patterns.

Olga, along with 6 other ladies, is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Orquideas de Montecristo”. The women look forward to their monthly meetings when they support each other, make loan payments, and participate in educational training sessions, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care services. Topics are relevant to their lives and include information about health, women’s issues, and family matters. Effective business management tools help them with their convenience stores, prepared food stands, traditional textile, and animal husbandry businesses. Every other month, the ladies have access to basic health care services delivered by a visiting nurse.

Olga and her friends appreciate the kindness of Kiva investors. They have hopes for a brighter future! Thank you!
