Princesas Del Rey Group's story

These Guatemalan women have faced enormous challenges in order to obtain an education and find a job that allows them to develop as professionals. Due to a lack of job opportunities, these women have had to search for ways to generate earnings with which to support their families.

Andrea, 43, is a wife and mother of three children ages 14 to 21. She had the opportunity to complete four years of college and work for some time. Andrea imagines a promising future for her children, which is why she sends them to a good school. Joining forces with her eldest son, Andrea opens a plant nursery four months ago. The business is growing, but Andrea is in need of working capital. She is seeking her third Kiva loan in order to purchase materials, such as nylon, pots, sand, and other products from catalogs.

There are seven women in the Puente de Amistad "Princesas del Rey" lending group, located in the state of Quetzaltenango. They businesses include selling food, selling secondhand clothing, selling fruits and vegetables, and small nurseries. They hope to participate in the monthly trainings offered by the loans, education and health program, "Microcrédito Plus." The trainings cover topics, like health, family, women's issues, and business, which are of great importance to the group members. Andrea would like to continue learnings about health services, and new ways to maintain her business and serve her customers.

Thank you Kiva lenders for supporting them!
