but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to continue equipping her butcher's shop and buy meat and a meat slicing machine.

Estrellas De Xeatzan Group's story

As a child, María learned from her parents to weave and embroider textiles, as well as to raise animals (pigs, chickens, cows). She is now 30 years old, she is married and the mother of a 6 year old daughter. María's main business has been weaving and embroidering textiles. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, sales fell considerably.

María saw it to be profitable to start another business selling beef and to date it is a success. She requests her 1st loan from Kiva to continue equipping the butcher's shop and buy meat and a meat slicing machine.

The working women of the Community Bank of Friendship Bridge "Estrellas de Xeatzam" hope to invest in their textile businesses, shops for daily consumption, butcher shop, potato chip cart and "nixtamal" corn mills. They live in a rural area of the Department / State of Totonicapán and are Mayan speakers of K'iche '. These women understand the tremendous importance of good hygiene practices and healthy habits. The Puente de Amistad “Microcredit Plus” program (loans, monthly educational sessions, health care services) provides more than 32,000 under-served Guatemalan women with the essential tools they need to create a brighter and healthier future. Women learn about the importance of good hygiene practices, including hand washing and proper nutrition. Kiva's lenders, in association with Friendship Bridge, are of great help to them. Thank you to each one of you!
