Ruth's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase retail goods to stock up her small shop to provide for her customers.

Ruth's story

Ruth lives in an urban district which is located not far from Port Vila's international airport. Her community is very small, and the main industry is food.

Vanuatu has lost 70% of its employment due to Covid-19, so making a stable income can be difficult at times. Ruth is 35 years of age and is happily married to a construction worker. She has two beautiful children aged 12 and 9, and both are currently attending a local school nearby. She lives with her husband and children in their own old home.

Ruth has requested a loan to help her purchase retail goods for her small retail shop which will help provide for her customers. She wants to increase her stock in order to attract more customers to her shop. This will help her income grow, which she will use to renovate her old home and expand her business. Ruth took the initiative to start off her shop as in her community they are uphill, and most retail shops are downhill. It can be tiring at times to walk to and from the shops.

She has now been in this business for over three years. This is Ruth's fourth loan with South Pacific Business Development (Vanuatu) Ltd. She successfully repaid her first loan on time. Through her loans, Ruth is empowered to make her business grow so she can become a successful businesswoman.
