A loan helped to buy a variety of multi-colored yarns for her traditional weaving.

Mujeres Ixiles Ii Group's story

Many Guatemalan families have managed to get ahead thanks to the business of weaving and embroidering huipiles, typical "cuts" skirts. In addition to continuing to preserve their culture, they also earn additional income. This is the example of Elena who at 35 years old successfully manages the business of weaving "huipiles". Despite the fact that she studied three years at the school, she keeps the business accounts very well.

Elena is very happy because this business has allowed her to generate income and at the same time take care of her husband and her 4 children (6-14). She has 3 workers who work on foot looms. To generate more income, Elena also has a corn tortilla shop.

Since Elena needs to invest in the business, she applies for the 2nd loan from Kiva's lenders. She will buy a variety of multi-colored yarn. There are 6 women who speak the mother tongue Ixil and Spanish with difficulty. They are originally from the Department / State of Quiché. These women have joined this "Mujeres Ixil II" Communal Bank with the aim of achieving integral development, through their businesses (textiles, daily consumption stores, animal husbandry) and access to small loans.

They also benefit from participating in the "Microcredito Plus" loan, education and health services program. During the meetings, a facilitator shares information about preventive health, business, family, women. Thanks to the lenders of Kiva and Puente de Amistad, women will have an opportunity for development.
