Gillian's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy more float for her mobile money business and to buy maize and fish in bulk to sell.

Gillian's story

Gillian is a 26-year-old entrepreneur who lives with her uncle in the Mpulungu district in Zambia. She sells fish, maize and owns a mobile money business. With her first Kiva loan, Gillian replenished her inventory which increased her sales and now her business is thriving. She is requesting a second loan to expand her business by buying more bags of maize, boxes of fish and to increase the amount of money she has on hand to handle her customers’ mobile money transactions, also known as “float” money. She plans to use the profit she earns to support her family and save for her education. Gillian will repay the ‘social interest’ on her second loan by volunteering three hours per week as a CAMFED Learner Guide, facilitating classes from CAMFED’s ‘My Better World’ program with students at her local secondary school, helping to build children’s self-esteem and motivating them to remain in school.
