A loan helped to purchase kilos of kava to produce kava juice and packs of cigarette to stock up to provide for her customers and increase her income.

Davina's story

Davina lives in an urban district that is located 10 minutes off Port Vila city. Her community is not so large, and the main industry is food. Vanuatu has also been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, its borders have closed off causing the tourism industry to terminate a lot of its employment. So, earning a steady income can be hard at times. Davina is 62 years of age and is happily married to a retired military officer. She has four grown up children who live with her and her husband in their own home.

Davina has asked for a loan to purchase kilos of kava to produce kava juice and packs of cigarette to stock up to provide for her customers. She wants to provide the best kava in her community, as kava is a traditional drink that is drunk in special occasions but also as a social drink for one to consume for relaxation after a hard days work. With the revenue earned, she will use to complete an unfinished house that she intends to use to open her own retail shop.

Davina has been with the South Pacific Business Development (Vanuatu) Ltd for over a year, this is her second loan. She has respectfully repaid her first loan on time. Now Davina is motivated to expand her business to become a successful businesswoman.
