Elmi's story

Elmi is a young refugee entrepreneur of Ethiopian descent who owns and runs a store selling mobile phones and mobile phone accessories at the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya. He started the business to provide himself with a stable means of livelihood and it continues to experience steady growth over the past months.

The store has grown exponentially over the years and this has seen Elmi add cosmetics refreshments and money-transfer services in the store. His products are fairly priced and hence his good reputation within the community.

Elmi actively participated in AEC’s business training program focused on financial management and increasing sales. He was able to successfully apply the skills acquired from the training in running the business which now boasts improved cashflows and efficiency. He is requesting a loan in order to increase his working capital to allow him add a new stock of mobile phones and cosmetics in the store. The financing will enable Elmi to keep growing his business.
