Ajkay Group's story

Many of the women who participate in the "Microcredit Plus" program of Puente de Amistad for young people began to carry out various jobs that later became profitable businesses. This is how 23-year-old Maria has lived it. She is of the K’iche ’ethnic group and lives in a rural area of the Quiché Department (state). María is married and the mother of 3 children (2, 3, and 6). She received 6 years of education and knows that education is important to improve herself in life. For this reason, she plans to send her children to school and saves for their education. Some years ago, Maria saw an opportunity to earn an income in the animal husbandry business. The business is growing and she needs a loan to increase her capital. She is applying for the 4th Kiva loan to buy more pigs.

There are 7 women in the Puente de Amistad Community Bank who attended the first grades of the school. Despite little schooling, they advance thanks to small businesses that raise animals, textiles, and fruit. Women have also benefited from monthly training, where they learn about business, health, and family. María indicates “the topics about investment and budget, they support me to make my business successful. Also, every 2 months I can perform various exams to see how my health is. It is very good".

Thanks for your input, Kiva Lenders!
