Xecaxlut Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a glass showcase, a refrigerator and a product from the basic basket.

Xecaxlut Group's story

For the population of the rural area, it is very difficult to have access to products of the basic basket, since twice a week they have to travel an hour to buy in the town market.

Due to this situation, some residents open businesses such as shops for daily consumption. That has been the experience of Cecilia, a 26-year-old woman and mother of 3 children (9 months to 10 years).

She started 7 years ago with the business of sewing "cuts" skirts, "huipiles" typical blouses. To generate additional income and seeing the need to open a daily consumer store in her sector, she opened this business 2 years ago.

The business is growing and she currently wants to sell refrigerated product and also display her product. In order to have the business equipped, she requests the 1st loan from Kiva to buy a glass showcase, a refrigerator and a product from the basic basket.

From this Community Bank of Puente de Amistad called "Xecaxlut" only Cecilia speaks Spanish, the other six women only speak K'iche. " They are originally from the Department (state) of Quiché and through the agriculture businesses and daily consumption stores, they are getting ahead.

On a monthly basis, the women participate in educational sessions such as business administration, family affairs, health, all part of Puente de Amistad's "Microcredit Plus" program (loans, education, health). These topics help women manage and grow their businesses.

The women thank the Kiva moneylenders, for their trust and support!
