Soana's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy pandanus for her weaving business.

Soana's story

Soana is now 68 years old. She is a mother to five adults and a wife to a farmer. For more than thirty years, she has run her weaving business, and for many years her family has benefited from her business.

She joins a group of women in their village, most of whom are members in the SPBD loan program, and together they conduct weaving together. They only weave taovala [a woven mat worn on formal occasions] using white pandanus [leaves from the palm-like pandanus tree] only. Soana has many benefits from working with a group, compared to the time when she was a sole weaver. It takes almost a month for her to complete one taovala, but with a group, it only takes a week or two.

Soana applied for a loan to purchase enough pandanus, because the only factor that usually affects weaving is the lack of pandanus due to the high price of pandanus at the market. Soana wishes to continue with her business and make more profits from it.
