V. San Miguel Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a wooden loom and a large quantity of high-quality yarn.

V. San Miguel Group's story

The indigenous textiles of Guatemala are among the most beautiful in the world! Traditional skirts, or "cuts," can take about two weeks to weave. These garments are highly appreciated by people all over the world. Santos, a 39-year-old woman who went to school for 6 years has been a weaver of these garments for 10 years. She is married but has no children yet. The business is a success and currently employs three people. Santos requests the 4th loan from Kiva to buy a wooden loom and a large quantity of high-quality yarn. She needs to fulfill custom orders. Santos with six other women, are members of the Puente de Amistad “V. San Miguel". They have traditional textile businesses and raise poultry. Because most of them have little or no formal education, they appreciate learning about health, hygiene and nutrition, as well as effective business management skills. In their monthly meetings a facilitator uses games, role plays, pictures and diagrams to share information. Every two months, they have access to health care services. The women are very grateful to participate in the “Microcredit Plus” loan, education and health services program. They feel that the monthly educational trainings empower them and appreciate having access to health care services. Thank you, Kiva lenders, for the vital role you play in the lives of Santos and her friends!
