Maria Emelida, 50, is married and has three independent adult children. Her husband is a motorcycle mechanic and they live in a house on loan to them from one of her husband’s relatives. They live in Charapoto whose people work in agriculture; livestock farming is the main economic activity.

Maria Emelida sells Avon products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfume and women’s accessories). She works three days a week, two to three hours a day and sells on credit, collecting payment every eight days.
