Joan's Group's story

Pictured above is Joan, who, as a group leader, is representing her 11-farmer group in the Teso District, Kenya. She is a mother to eight children and is known in her community as a very reliable person. Joan initially joined One Acre Fund in 2014 to have access to quality training and acquire new farming methods. Since she joined, she says that her life has improved. Her family has become healthier due to better nutrition.

Joan is requesting a loan to buy maize seed and fertilizer to improve her farm. She will use the profits from the coming harvesting season to buy a cow. Among the 11 farmers in Joan's Group, a total of eight acres of land will be planted using maize seed and fertilizer received with this loan. Additionally, some farmers in the group will be purchasing solar lights and the group will receive two solar lights with their loan.
