Luis's story

I'm a result driven leader with a background education in Accounting and over 6 years of business management experience in both specialty brands and fast fashion. I grew up in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, where I spent a lot of time watching my grandmother design and sew unique pieces of clothes, while listening to my grandfather play the "cuatro". Memories I didn't know would inspire me in the future.  I developed drawing skills growing up, but never thought of it as nothing more than a hobby, instead I focused on my studies. I started working in Retail in my Senior Year, and throughout the years found a career while finishing my Bachelor's Degree at the University of Puerto Rico, at Bayamón. I quickly developed a passion for Fashion.  I'm currently a Manager at a well known Fast Fashion retailer. Working in the industry for so long, and seeing the negative impact of mass-produced, cheap clothes, motivated me to work with an alternate solution for this problem; making sustainable, quality garments as an awareness approach to fast fashion, and considering the process and resources required to make clothes in an ethical way. We can't live in a world without clothes, but we can make a positive impact in it by changing the way we buy them.  I grabbed a white piece of paper and an old drawing pencil and started drawing sketches of what I wanted "Berns." to represent. Thinking of those old memories, I designed a smart, elevated lifestyle wear that tells the story of who I am, and where I'm from, shaped by the cultural world that inspired me.
