Mariema's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase retail goods to stock up her small shop and new patterned fabrics and sewing materials to sew new dresses to increase her income.

Mariema's story

Mariema is a 39-year-old mother of three. Her children are of aged 22, 12 and 7, and all are still in school. She has a partner who works in a construction company. Mariema lives with her partner and children in her parents' compound which is located along the southern coastline, a 15-minute drive to Port Vila city. Her community is very small and the main industry is tourism. Due to Covid-19, Vanuatu has closed its borders, forcing majority of its tourism employments to cease. It has been difficult at times to earn a stable income.

Mariema has requested a loan to help her purchase retail goods to stock up her small shop and also new patterned fabrics and sewing materials which will enable her to sew new dresses for her customers.

She has recently opened her small shop in early 2020 although her sewing service has started since she was 18 years of age. With the revenue she earns, she will save up so that she can pay for a piece of land and build their family's dream home.

This is Mariema's third loan with South Pacific Business Development (Vanuatu) Ltd. She has been faithful in her loan repayments and paid in a timely manner. Through her loans, Mariema is motivated to expand her business so that she can improve her family's living conditions.
