A loan helped to buy sheep to resell.

Gie Diapalante Group's story

Ousmane, a tall, slim, fair-skinned young man of 33, represents the Gie Diapalante group and is shown holding a sheep in the photo.
He is married and lives with his spouse, who is a housewife, and his three children aged 3 to 9 years, one of whom goes to school. He is responsible for paying their school fees. He works in livestock breeding.
Ousmane is an educated Senegalese; he has been operating his business for 10 years. He has recourse to a microfinance institute in order to purchase more sheep, just like the other members of his group. He stocks up at the weekly markets in his town and the surrounding villages and resells his animals at the same venues after several months.
He earns profits that enable him to meet his family's needs: medical expenses, food, tuition etc.
The difficulties he encounters in his business are recurrent cattle theft and sometimes the death of his animals at certain times of the year, such as during the rainy season. Despite all of these difficulties, he manages to get past them.
