A loan helped to buy certified seeds and high-nutrient fertilizers to expand her corn farm.

Catherine's story

Catherine (56) is a hardworking mother who resides in a remote village in Sotik, Kenya, a land of seemingly never-ending beauty. Catherine practices dairy and crop farming. Thanks to these ventures, she has been able to send her children to school. She is a committed and devoted farmer who depends entirely on farming. Catherine has farmed for many years, and that has enabled her to support her family.

Catherine is seeking a loan of 150,000 Kenyan shillings (KES), which she will use to buy certified seeds and high-nutrient fertilizers to expand her corn farm. By scaling up her business, she will reduce relative production costs and increase output. Catherine's strategy is to use the returns from the investment to pay for more farm inputs, a lack of which is a major problem that leads to the closing of many farms due to poor quantity and quality of yields. She will, therefore, be able to increase her profits. This will elevate her standard of living and support her in clearing the school fees debt of her children.
