Mary Joe's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase bags of cement and sand to produce handmade blocks to better provide for her customers and increase her income.

Mary Joe's story

Mary Joe is 40 years of age and has six children, three of whom are grown up and the other three are still in college. She has her partner, who is a carpenter. She lives with her partner and children in their own home, which is located in a rural district about 20 minutes drive off Port Vila city. Mary Joe's community is very large, and the main industry is food and agriculture. As Vanuatu has lost 70% of its employment due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it has been hard for one to earn a steady income.

Mary Joe has asked for a loan to help her purchase bags of cement and sand that will help her to produce handmade blocks to better provide for her customers. She also does sewing at home; she sews island dresses and skirts for ladies. She has been sewing for 4 years now and has just started her handmade blocks, with the help of her children and partner.

With the revenue she earns, she will use it to pay for her children's school fees and improve her family's living conditions. Mary Joe has been with South Pacific Business Development (Vanuatu) Ltd. for over 3 years now, and this is her fourth loan. She has successfully repaid her previous loans on time. Through her loans, she is empowered to make her business grow so she can become a successful entrepreneur.
