Miliakere's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy the initial stock for the canteen and to finance the electronic services in cooperation with mobile phone providers.

Miliakere's story

Koroqaqa town is a town that has not seen development in years. There are no mainstream supermarkets in the town, and many of the local shops have taken advantage of this and overprice their items.

Miliakere is a single mother to two boys. Over the years, she has noticed that there is a lack of entrepreneurial skills in her community with income-generating activities being the same throughout. Usually opting to be market vendors, they do not pursue other business ventures that are dissimilar and can therefore be profitable.

With this in mind, the young mother has concluded that it would be essential and very convenient for her fellow villagers if they had a canteen in their village. A canteen that complied with price control laws and also one that took their spending lifestyles into account.

Miliakere needs a loan that will bring such a realization into fruition and help her to change a section of her house to include shelving and create a customer-friendly environment. Miliakere will need capital to purchase her initial stock, which will include fuels (kerosene, benzene and premix). She hopes to include electronic services for e-ticketing (public transport cards), phone recharges, and e-wallets (M-Paisa), which offer a wider range of services from sending/receiving money to bill payments.

Miliakere’s canteen and the services she offers will have a positive impact on everyone, as the ripple effects of empowering a woman have always proven throughout time.
