Las Palmas Group's story

Through small restaurants, many women offer delicious recipes to customers and at the same time bring income to the homes. This has been the experience of Lucía, a 48-year-old entrepreneurial woman, who has developed a successful business. She is a married woman and has 6 children (aged 5 to 23) who receive primary and secondary education. Lucía lives in a rural area of the department of Quiché. As the business is growing, she has employed two people. Lucia plans to change the furniture in the locale and buy more ingredients. She will achieve this with the help of the 6th Kiva loan.

Lucía is a member of the Puente de Amistad “Las Palmas” Community Bank. The 8 women in the group have small restaurants, sell traditional clothes, food, vegetables, and own small convenience stores. They enjoy their monthly meetings when they make loan payments and participate in educational training sessions, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program for loans, education and health services. Women learn about effective business practices, healthy habits, nutrition, and women's rights. Every two months, a nurse comes to them and offers family planning, basic health care exams, Pap tests, blood sugar and blood pressure checks. The issue that has caught Lucía's attention the most is the good investment of money and saving.

Lucia and her friends have set their sights on a better future and a higher standard of living. Thank you Kiva Lenders for your kindness in financing these loans!
