A loan helped to buy organic fertilizers to improve a mom's crop output and generate more income.

Jane's story

Hello, lenders. Meet Jane (36, pictured in her simple house), a mom of 3 school-going children. She is a farmer from the remote village of Kerugoya, situated in the central province of Kenya. The living conditions in this area are tough because most houses have neither clean water nor an electrical connection.

In the Kerugoya area of Kenya, most people depend on agriculture to earn a living. Their biggest challenge is the huge deficit in access to agricultural inputs, meaning that farmers' yields and incomes are far below what they could be.

Juhudi Kilimo has partnered with Kiva to provide financial services to smallholders around Kenya. Through these financial services, farmers can now buy productive assets and important agricultural inputs for use on their farms.

Jane has requested a loan that she will use to buy farm inputs such as nutrient-rich fertilizer to improve her crop farm. This loan will enable her to improve her crop production through the use of quality farm inputs.
