A loan helped to buy farming inputs to improve her horticultural farming business, which has been significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hyline's story

Hyline is a 34-year-old mother of three children living in Nyamira, a town surrounded by prime agricultural lands which favor large-scale grain farming, dairy and horticultural farming. She is a hardworking woman who has been very active on her mixed farm for the past twenty years. Through farming, she has changed her family’s fortunes.

Hyline is seeking this loan to buy farming inputs to improve her horticultural farming business, which has been significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Unlike local money lenders who charge exorbitant interests on loans, Juhudi Kilimo and Kiva have entered into a partnership that aims at improving the lives of smallholder farmers by providing them with loans and encouraging them to save. Through this intervention, movement of funds in the rural communities has increased, thereby alleviating rural poverty. Hyline hopes that Kiva lenders will support her during this tough global economic recession.
