Alice's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase farming inputs, such as fertilizer and hybrid seeds, to boost the quality of her horticulture produce.

Alice's story

Alice (37) is a mother of school-going children living in Kerugoya, a town where the main economic activities include agricultural processing, particularly in horticulture and animal farming. Alice is unwilling to let her children suffer, and that is why she injects passion and determination in her work. She is a horticultural farmer who also practices dairy farming. The quality of Alice’s crops has dwindled due to the use of poor farm inputs. This has brought about a low demand for her crops and has negatively impacted her sales.

Access to modern quality farm inputs is the pillar of an agricultural revolution. However, in Kenya, a developing country, fertilizer and seed allocation by the government is way below the needs of farmers. Alice is seeking a helping hand to purchase farming inputs, such as fertilizer and hybrid seeds, to boost the quality of her horticulture produce. Since Juhudi Kilimo, who is in partnership with Kiva, ventured into the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement in input availability than before.

Alice is assured of a bumper harvest, which will open new markets for her crops and subsequently increase her profits. This will elevate her standard of living as well as that of her children.
