Mujeres Legales Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy chicks, pigs and feed for them.

Mujeres Legales Group's story

One of the most popular ways to create income in the department/state of Quiche is raising poultry. This is especially attractive for women because it allows them to stay home, care for their families and earn income. This is what Elisabet, a young 24 year old. single woman living with her parents, does to help support the household. She shares, “I’m really pleased to put food on the table for my parents, expand our diet and improve our home.” Business is growing and Elisabet requests her third Kiva loan to buy more chicks, pigs and feed. The boy in the photo is the son of one of the clients.

Eight ladies, including Elisabet, participate in the Friendship Bridge “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care. Their Trust Bank is called “Mujeres Legales”. The women arrive punctually to their monthly meetings, make loan payments and participate in educational sessions that cover relevant topics (business, health, family, women). A Facilitator designs these programs and uses pictures, diagrams, role playing and games to share the information. Every two months, they have access to basic health care services. A visiting nurse offers all kinds of exams (breast, blood sugar, blood pressure) and services (PAP, family planning).

With the partnership between Kiva and Friendship Bridge, along with their own determination and planning, Elisabet and her friends are truly creating pathways out of poverty. Thank you to each of you!
