Girasoles De Xeatzan Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a variety of typical clothing, which is popular, and fertilizer for the new crop of basic grains.

Girasoles De Xeatzan Group's story

Very few Guatemalan women who live in rural areas have the opportunity to attend primary school. Vilma is one of those women. She only was able to have two years of formal education. For that reason, the most reasonable option for her was to start a business.

Vilma, age 28, is married and has two children, ages 5 and 7 years. Some time ago, Vilma started her business selling typical clothing and growing basic grains. The business is successful, and so Vilma needs to add capital; she is requesting her third Kiva loan. She intends to invest in the purchase of typical clothing, which is popular, and fertilizer for the new crop of basic grains.

Vilma and eight other women are members of the communal bank "Girasoles de Xeatzan". They live in a rural area in the department [state] of Chimaltenango. They benefit tremendously from the monthly educational sessions that are part of the “Microcrédito Plus” program of loans, education, and health services. A facilitator constantly shares useful information with them in their meetings on health, family affairs, women's problems, or effective business practices. The facilitator communicates with each one of them by telephone, and then they get together for their monthly topic sessions.

During this challenging time, Vilma and her friends are grateful to the Kiva lenders who are helping them to look towards a healthier and more prosperous future. Thank you!
