Los Positos Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy different coloured plastic threads for making baskets in different sizes.

Los Positos Group's story

Starting a business provides many advantages as well as challenges, but attitude plays a big role. This is true for Olivia, a hardworking woman who really wants to get ahead. She is a crafter who makes plastic baskets and sells them at five markets near her community. She is married, 22 years old and has two children (aged 5 and 1). She was only able to study up to the third grade, but she is proud to be able to support her children in completing their education. Olivia's business is successful, and she needs funding to buy raw materials like plastic threads in different colours so that she can make baskets of different sizes. That is why she is requesting her first Kiva loan.

Olivia is president of the "Los Positos" communal bank. There are nine women in this group, who are of Maya Kʼicheʼ origin and live in a rural area of Totonicapán Department. The other women in the group want to invest in raising animals, making baskets and selling basic grains and fruit. Due to certain restrictions that are still ongoing because of the coronavirus, the facilitator contacts these women by phone. They also have the opportunity to benefit from loans, education and preventative health services through Microcredit Plus.

Thank you to everyone who funds loans through Kiva, so that these workers can continue to develop!
