Mujeres Activas Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a stove, blender, mixer, kitchen utensils and spices.

Mujeres Activas Group's story

Rosa, a young 23-year-old single woman who lives with her parents in a rural area in the department/state of Solola, has a small restaurant. Although she only has six years of formal education, she has learned a lot. Tourists pass through her little town and she advertises her daily menu on a poster outside the restaurant. Her business is growing! Rosa plans to buy a stove, blender mixer, kitchen utensils and a variety of spices. She shares that with these new tools and ingredients, she will be able to be more successful!

Rosa, along with seven other ladies, is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres Activas” or “Active Women”. They have tortilla shops, small restaurants, and sell traditional clothing and personal care products.

At their monthly meetings, they learn about an aspect of four topics: business, health, family, business. Because they have little or no formal education, a facilitator shares information using games, role playing, pictures and diagrams. Every other month, they have access to basic health care services and exams. This is important since the health care system in Guatemala is poor and often non-existent. The women can get breast, blood pressure and blood sugar exams, PAP smears or contraception control. This useful combination of loans, education and health care is called “Microcredit Plus”.

Kiva investors are highly appreciated by Rosa and her friends for extending a helping hand. Thank you to each of you for your kindness and your generosity!
