Las Luchadoras De Cunen Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy lumber, metal sheeting, wire, nails and baby chickens.

Las Luchadoras De Cunen Group's story

Many women in the highlands of Guatemala raise chickens, ducks and turkeys. They buy them as babies, fatten them and then them sell in local marketplaces. Catarina, a 62 year old married Maya K’iche mother of 6 adult children who now range in age from 22-45, raises poultry in a rural area in the department/state of Quiche. All of her children completed primary school. Catarina is committed to contributing to household expenses. She is requesting her 2nd KIVA loan to buy metal sheeting, wire, nails and baby chickens of various ages to fatten up and sell.

Catarina is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Las Luchadoras de Cunen”. There are 8 other ladies in the group who have textile and prepared food businesses, as well as convenience stores. They appreciate participating in monthly educational training sessions, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care services. Every day topics like health, nutrition, hygiene and how to navigate through the challenges of the pandemic are a few subjects covered at their meetings. The women gain essential business management tools as well. Every other month, they have access to basic health care services.

Catarina and her friends are taking steps toward a brighter future. Kiva investors, partnering with Friendship Bridge, are much appreciated by them. Thank you for lending a helping hand!
