A loan helped to invest in a bulk purchase of thread and hire additional artisans for her workshop.

Luisa's story

Luisa is an artisan from Guatemala who specializes in cotton apparel and accessories. She would like to invest in a bulk purchase of thread and hire additional artisans for her workshop.

Luisa has been selling through NOVICA since 2010. This is her story:

"My story is really the story of my whole family, beginning with my parents," says Luisa. "My father was passionate about growing cotton, a crop that originated with the Maya. We work with only three pure colors. Apart from the crude hue, we use a seed known as 'ixcaco' for the brown cotton. We call our third color jade. All the rest of our colors are a result of combining these three when weaving the fabric."

"Many thanks to all of you. This monetary support is very important, especially in this time of crisis. It will help us invest in producing items to sell on Novica. God bless you this 2021."
