A loan helped a widowed mom to buy quality farming inputs so that she can improve her production making more profit to support her family during this hard economic period.

Rose's story

Rose (53 year old widowed mom of 3 school going children) views farming as her way of life. Though she grew up in a poor background, her story of success in very inspiring.

She has worked hard to change her family’s fortunes. It is through farming that Rose is able to provide decent meals in her home. She loves attending to various farming activities such as harvesting and rearing her livestock (cattle).

She has been farming for the last few years. Though she has gathered much experience in this business, she is not comfortable with the little she earns having invested so much of her time and effort. Rose has requested a loan from Juhudi Kilimo after realizing that they are in partnership with Kiva and that they are willing to help her realize her dreams.

She will use the loan to purchase farming inputs such as high-nutrient fertilizers and certified seeds, to improve her farm yield and make more profits from sales to support her family. For a woman like Rose, accessing funds in Kenya, especially around Kitale area where she lives, is very challenging. Rose feels relieved knowing there are institutions such that help enterprising women like her.
